There isn’t really a good plot of dirt in my yard for veggies, so I bought this planter.
And then because I’m a mommy dork, I let Bonham go to town painting it. I filled in here and there with help from his Grandmother who was visiting for the weekend, but most of the artistic touches are all Bonham. We used washable Tempura paint because he’s a messy 3 year old and then I sprayed it with Polyurethane to try and keep that washable paint from running when this thing gets rained on.
Then we made markers. Bonham did the “base color” and then I tried my best to add a drawing of the veggie. We chose carrots and cucumber because they are foods Bonham eats. I needed a third so I thought we’d try peas. I just used some thin wooden squares I found at a craft store and glued wooden stakes to them. After we painted them I sprayed them with Polyurethane.
Next step will be to add dirt, plant our seeds and then wait. My guess is that 2 months from now I will be posting about how I went out in the middle of the night and buried store bought carrots in the planter to spare my son the disappointment that nothing grew. My child will be pulling a carrot from that soil one way or another.
