“Well. I think a stork, he umm, he drops it down and then, and then, a hole goes in your body and there’s blood everywhere, coming out of your head and then you push your belly button and then your butt falls off and then you hold your butt and you have to dig and you find the little baby.”
That quote from Knocked Up cracks me up everytime I think about it. It’s pretty close to true.
I have a few friends who are expecting their first kiddos, so I wanted to share a few of the items that we found useful…and by useful I mean…holy hell we would not have made it without these things…
The Halo Sleep Sack. We used their swaddle ones too, but this one is the one that we loved. Bonham has always been a rough and tumble sleeper. This was amazing. I never worried about him getting caught up in his blankets or kicking it off and not being warm enough. This was peace of mind. It was great. We used it up until he was pulling up. They have ones now with feet holes, but I never tried them.
Next up, the Baby Bjorn. I know, not at all an original pick…but a necessary one. Bonham had reflux…and not just mild and lasting a few months…he had reflux for a long while and pretty bad. He LIVED in this thing. He wanted to be held e.v.e.r.y. single second of the day. Without this we would have died. He was in it from about 2 months old until he was able to walk. Yeah…it was a real treat.
Kuumba Made Healing Salve. Bonham really only got diaper rash a few times. We were insane about putting butt paste on him. We used Boudreaux’s Butt Paste and it worked well for us. But one day…oh one day he got a rash. And I mean…wow. Red, bleeding, crying, screaming – it was horrible. We used water and cotton to clean him and tried everything under the sun to heal it…but it was not going away. RBB’s cousin suggested the Kuumba Made stuff and it was great. It goes on really smooth and easy – doesn’t tug at the skin at all. It was soothing and healing. We used that and then a layer of heavy duty Desitin Nighttime on top of it. After a few days, it was better. We still keep this in the house and use it whenever Bonham’s tush gets a little red, or I burn myself, or anything. It is really good for everything. I feel like that dad in My Big Fat Greek Wedding who put Windex on everything…I put Kuumba made on everything.
Last up…Starbucks. Because seriously, sometimes I just needed to put Bohman in the car and drive. He was happy in the car. I was getting a much needed break from holding him and the world made sense for a few minutes. In those first 6 months when his reflux was at it’s peak…this was my 30 minutes of peace. And I guess he must remember those drives because now at 3 1/2 he requests Starbucks. He loves the pumpkin loaf and the croissants. He points out Starbucks when we drive by and requests it as his treat. Could be worse right?
I must have been smoking crack when I first published this post. I forgot one of my favorites. The must have of all must haves…The Good Nite Lite.
This thing rocks. We started using it when Bonham was about two and we still use it now. He knows to not get up until the sun comes on…which it does at the preset (set by us) time of 6:50. And at 6:50 every day we hear “Mommy, my sun came up.”….it’s still early, but at least it is not one second before 6:50. I cannot tell you how much I love this thing. It is GREAT!!!!
