Oy Vey…

For the first night of Hanukkah I thought I would share some Yiddish. You might be surprised to see that you know a bit but didn’t realize it. Anyway, here are some of my favorites…some you have probably heard, and a few maybe not.

Farklempt – bummed out
Khutspe – gall/nerve
Kibitz – meddle
Kvel – glow with pride
Kvetch – complain
Meshugine – crazy person
Mishmash – hodge podge
Nosh – eat a little something
Shlep – to drag
Shpilkes – nervous energy
Shmutz – dirt
Shtik – routine

Anyway..there ya go. Now you can inject a little Yiddish into your day. Happy Hanukkah everyone.

Nosh has always been a favorite of mine! Mmmmmmmm

I would never have correctly spelled khutspe.

  • Torrie

I love the work "shlep"… fun to say.

Happy Hanukkah Danielle!! Linked this post to my post today:). Now, time to pour a cup of coffee to feed that shpilkes of mine.

Schmutz is one of our all-time favorite words around our house. Use it all the time and love it. Used to really crack the kids up when they were young.

Oh, and shlep is a good one.

Wow, apparently I know way more yiddish than I realized!
