Design Crush

Last weekend Engage OKC hosted a birthday party for Kelly Beal and Design Crush. I love Kelly’s blog in a million different ways, and celebrating her 5 year “birthday” was necessary, fun and perfect. There are tons of things I love about Design Crush…the Friday links, her series on Little Corners, the touching stories about Pete, her recipe round ups…hello, s’mores anyone? Beyond her blog she also goes out of her way to connect with her community, both online and in person. Her calendar swap, mix tapes and Alt packing lists are all examples of this. I am a huge Kelly fan and I look forward to reading her for another 5 years and beyond.

I asked Susan if I could borrow a necklace and which to wear…her answer was “yes, both of them.” I really need lessons on how to take a picture. My goal is to one day have an effortless a smile as Susan does (in pictures and in real life). And Kelly of course is picture perfect.

These goodie bags were made by Chirps and Cheers. They are perfection. They are exactly what I think Kelly would have designed had she made them herself.

Speaking of Chirps and Cheers, those are the 2 beautiful blonds in this picture. Susan and her daughter Sammy. Next to Kelly is Elena from The Wedge and on the other side is Kate from Cookie and Kate.  The Wedge was generous enough to host us for the night. We enjoyed oodles of fresh, hot pizza straight from their wood oven. Each was unique and delicious. The Prosciutto E Formaggi is my favorite. I think. So hard to pick! Elena also severed our signature cocktail for the night, The Crush -  ruby red grapefruit juice, sweetened lime juice, tequila and club soda served with a salted rim. It was perfection on a hot day. The evening wrapped up with an amazing cake from Kate of Cookie and Kate. It was filled with berries and topped with a light glaze. Decedent but not heavy. Exactly perfect. The pics above were taken by Regan from A Fashion Ado. In addition to her blog, she is a local photographer and it was great to have her there snapping pics for us.

    That was such a fun evening, and the Wedge was the perfect venue for it. Thank you for making it happen! I’m still bummed that so much of the glaze dripped down the sides of my cake, but hope the berries made up for it!
